CTO (Challenging The Outcome) Child and Youth Educational Services is a non-profit organization supporting children, youth and their families in downtown Toronto. We advocate for children and youth who have challenges in Ontario's Public Education System.

Educational Consultation & Advocacy Support Services
Our Educational Consultation and #Advocacy Support Services are available to assist students and their parents who experience challenges in the Public Education System in Ontario. We provide solutions for all parties involved in a child's learning.
Community Workshops
We offer Community #Workshops that educators, parents, caregivers children and youth can attend. We assist communities with
understanding the negative impacts of education, parenting, and outside systems of power that affect young people.

New
Black Youth Outreach United (B-YOU)
Program
Supporting Black youth with Education, Mental Health, Volunteerism, Advocacy and Employment. We welcome all Black youth to join our exclusive and innovative community-led program engaging Black teens across the city of Toronto. We have designed an inclusive and dynamic program for ages 12-18yrs to be implemented in our NEW youth lounge in downtown Toronto.

As the suspension and expulsion rates increase in various school boards across Ontario, particularly the Toronto District School Board, teachers continue to witness students' poor academic performance and behavioural issues in the classroom.
Parents and caregivers are overwhelmed by the expectation and their efforts made to "fix" their child, with no hope in finding success.

The Toronto District School Board has nearly 16,000 elementary and high school teachers across Canada and serves approximately 246,000 students each year. We examined high school graduation rates, and acknowledge that drop out rates have declined over the past 17 years. However, 14% (more than 2,000 students) between the ages of 13-19 years old, either remain in school and have not graduated within their expected timeframe or have dropped out.

As a result, this leaves groups of students to not experience the pleasure of graduating with the peers they started school with. This effects more than just a students' sense of self, this effects our communities, making an economic impact on us all.

Ontario's Public Education System
What we do
Students in Ontario's Public Education System who are described as challenging, defiant, not engaged, those who struggle with completing tasks, have trouble with their academics, who are seen skipping class, or who demonstrate behavioural issues are students who are misrepresented. These students can be perceived as problematic.
According to teachers and administrators, these students do not represent appropriate student conduct. As a result, these students are left at a disadvantage when they are reported and sent to the principles office. We empathize and understand how challenging this may be for students and their families.
We provide Educational Consultation and Advocacy Support Services, our most sought after service that support children, youth and their families. We advocate for children and youth in downtown Toronto and beyond. We work with students, their families, teachers and administrators to ensure children's needs are met. We are insightful, innovative and creative in finding solutions to support children and youth with respect to social determinants of health.
Key issues that may require a parent or caregiver to gain support:

The student is experiencing barriers to equity as a result of a learning disability

Accommodations in the students IEP are not being met

The student is experiencing racial inequalities based on race, ancestry, colour, religion and/or spiritual beliefs or place of origin.

The student's grades do not reflect their abilities

The student is being bullied at school

The student's classroom expectations are not being met

Disciplinary action has been made against the student

The student is placed in a program that they or the parent(s) were not aware of

The student or parent(s) are unable to access the students' OSR files and are concerned about documents in the file

The student or their parents are being coerced into signing legal documents

We advocate for children and youth; through early intervention, we support the needs of youth to build a positive perception of themselves.
